Skateboard semi-final

18 Oct 2015 02:22

What a full day at the second edition of the FISE World Chengdu! Despite a slower start than expected due to rain showers in the early afternoon, the skateboarders were able to complete the semi-finals, bringing the rider count from 24 to 12 in an exciting competition.

The riding levels were indeed very high on the skatepark today, with riders coming from all around the world to take part in this second stop of the 2015 FISE World Series. The skateboarders sure didn’t make the judges’ job easy – the tight results are the proof of it!

But the judges had to do their job and give scores, the provisional rankings were made, determining the riding order for tomorrow’s big finals.

The first place of today’s semi-finals went to a well-deserving Joseph Garbaccio (FRA). The young rider really showed his versatility by truly using the whole park to a maximum. Joseph was indeed using as much the transitions as the big rail, the central bank to bank and the flat bar. His capacity to execute a multitude of different tricks without any mistake explains clearly why his is on top of the semi-finals rankings.

Just behind him is Dany Leon (SPA), a familiar face here on the FISE World Series and a solid competition rider. Dany performed a nearly perfect run, accumulating points with numerous well-executed tricks. Dany was also able to show a lot of speed through his runs, which always helps with the overall impression.

It’s Richard Tury (CSZ) who took third place in the provisional rankings for today’s semi final. One big particularity of Richard’s riding is his ability to perform insanely different tricks: he does so by entering his rail hits with a flip instead of an ollie, more often than not. This is definitely something we don’t see every day on a skatepark!

With today’s level on the park, it is hard to believe that this was only the semi-finals: the riders certainly left us wanting more and we shall be satisfied in our need of sick skateboard action with tomorrow’s big finals.
