This weekend!!
The third edition of the Vendée Freestyle Session is taking place this weekend at the Vendéespace in Mouilletons le Captif (85)! The best international riders in skateboard, BMX and inline skate will be coming over to give you an exceptional show.
We remember Venezuela’s Daniel Dhers, in 2014, 5 times X Games winner, Daniel Weidemeijer from the Netherlands, or riders like the Americans Franky Morales and Dave Lang, who come all the way from the over the pond to give an amazing show. The pro riders will be coming from all around the globe once more this year, since we will have representants from Spain, Belgium, UK, Russia, Sweden, Canada and USA!
Who are the riders to keep an eye on this weekend?
First of all, the locals: Pierre Tortereau in BMX, coming from Talmont-SaintHilaire in Vendée. He’s just as impressive on a street course than he is in a park or on dirt. His style, originality and commitment set him aside from other riders and often bring him high in rankings. He is today one of the best French BMX riders.
In the local riders, we also have Simon Leaute, from la Roche sur Yon, is a skateboard and curves specialist. He masters perfectly the art of bowl and ramp riding. Always original in his tricks execution, he is known for keeping a big smile on his face when he skates. He’s also the co-creator of De-Focus Skateboards.
Coming from the other side of the Atlantic, we are sure looking forward to see Drew Bezanson, from Canada, and considered today as one of the best riders in the world. Drew has been pushing the limits of the sport throughout the years, making it evolve with oversized feature, creative and innovating video projects and incredible new tricks that brought him to win some of the biggest international level competitions. BMX fans will be happy to see him, since he rarely comes to Europe.
In the inline skate world, the English Joe Atkinson who was recently named the 2015 FISE World Series Champion, is also a rider showing incredible ease and style, and will sure give you shivers during the VFS show.
What’s the biggest novelty in 2016?
Well, the biggest novelty this year is a new discipline at the Vendée Freestyle Session: skateboarding. The Dépertement de Vendée is setting up another park in the sports hall to host the competitions in this legendary dicipline. The fans of the board culture will be happy to have the chance to participate in skate competitions and also to have the chance to watch pros like Danny Leon from Spain, one of the best international riders on the pro level right now, James Threlfall, coming from the UK, Joseph Garbaccio, the young French prodigy, who recently won the FISE World China stop, last October and the local Vendée star Simon Leaute.
The VFS, the show of World Firsts
In 2014, inline skater Romain Godenaire beat the highest jump on inline skate record, even adding a rotation to it. In 2015, Roman Abrate offered a World’s First to the Vendée crowd, since he was the first rider to land a Double Bio 900°.
In 2016, the BMX fans will be delighted to come to the Vendée Freestyle Session since Alex Jumelin will attempt to beat a record of rotations in BMX Flat, in a limited time of 30 seconds with a very demanding trick called the Boomerand. The BMX freestyle riders will also have their show, since the Russian trick machine Andreev Konstantin took advantage of the winter time to prepare new combos… we are not saying more, you’ll just have to come see for yourself!
The big plus of this event is that every year, the riders are not alone on stage, since we will have some circus artists mixing their figures with the freestyle feats of our favorite riders. For the 2016 shows, the Département de Vendée picked some juggling specialists that will leave you speechless, a fine slackline show and a novelty with a trampoline show, all new and full of freestyle-like tricks, that will be taking place during the Friday, Saturday and Sunday’s shows.
So let us ask you again: what are you doing this weekend?
