MTB Final

The sun was shining on the slopestyle mountain bike course today, for the first time of the weekend here in Chengdu, China. The guys were extremely motivated to ride the dirt course and show the world what kind of feat they could perform on their bikes. The finals attracted a lot of people, who came and watch all 12 finalists perform to the best of their capacity.

The “3 runs, best one counts” format kept things very interesting, as it made the contest last a little longer, keeping everyone on the edge of their seat. Daryl Brown, from the UK, ended up bringing home once more the sought-after first place. Daryl indeed won first place last year here in Chengdu, China and repeated the feat once again. His second run started strong with a 360 bar spin to x-up, followed by very well executed tricks one after the other, like 360 truck drivers and 360 whip.  Massive congratulations to Daryl, our two times FISE World Chengdu winner.

Mehdi Gani, who ranked first in the semi-finals, ended up with the second position at the end of today’s contest. Mehdi performed some nice runs with a lot of tuck no-handers combos. Mehdi rode with the style and technique we know, giving the dense crowd a lasting impression.

On the lowest step of the podium we have the French Simon Pages, who impressed the judges with a huge back flip whip, which was definitely one of the most technical tricks performed on the course today. His other tricks, like a backflip drop and a 360 tail whip, made him gather plenty of points to keep his score high enough to climb on the third step of the podium.

It was great to see the mountain bike riders come once more all the way to China to represent their sport in the second edition of the FISE World Chengdu. The motivation levels will certainly be quite high for the next stop of the mountain bike FISE event, in Montpellier France.
